3 STEPS ON HOW TO OPTIMIZE YOUR WEBSITE
In order to land on the top of search engines, you will need to optimize your website for SEO. Here are 3 useful and simple steps on how to optimize your website for SEO and rank higher in Google.
1. Website/SEO Research
Everything always starts with research. You have to look for what’s working and what’s not. Let me break this down into more details.
Business Analysis: Build or look into your business branding and decide on what market or niche your business is focusing. This is one of the first important parts in optimizing your website so you can set on where you can put your focus into. Know your target market and location.
Keyword Research: After identifying and setting on your focus market, look at specific keywords related to your business. Put yourself in your customer’s shoe and think of what possible search keywords or phrases your customers will search in search engines. There are many keyword planner tools out there that you can use but the most frequently used ones are Ubersuggest and Google Keyword Planner. These tools will give you an overview of your specified keyword’s search volume as well as it’s competition. Choose at least 3 to 5 focus keywords and at least 5 to 10 sub-keywords.
2. On Page and Off Page Optimization
This is where it gets more interesting. After identifying your focus keywords, you will now have to do an in-depth audit of your site’s content. You have to check your meta keys and incorporate your focus keyword/s.
On Page Optimization: Look into every details of your website that needs optimization. Start with checking your meta-keywords and meta-description and update it using your focus keywords. Look into every pages and posts and incorporate your focus keywords. Let’s say you have a post about a specific product you are selling and based on your keyword research, the word “electronics” has a high monthly search volume and low competition. The word “electronics” must be in your post title, headings, meta description and in the content of your post. If you are using WordPress for your website, there are a lot of SEO tools that can help you in optimizing your pages and posts. One common SEO tools used in WordPress is Yoast. Create a strong social media presence, do guest postings which will link back to your website. Backlinking is one of the off page optimization processes which would really help your website being discoverable and have a high authority. Register to different directory listings, blog commenting, brand mentions can really help your SEO.
3. Monitoring and Reporting
Google algorithm constantly changes and your chosen focus keywords might be performing this month but not afterwards. It is important that you keep track of those changes to ensure that your website constantly ranks at the top page of search engines. SEO is not a one-time process and everything goes well. It is a continous research and improvement process to achieve consistency with your goal. Peoples search phrases also changes, so analyze your keyword performance and tweak it if needed. A blog would help your website constantly rank in search engines, so I would advise in adding it to your website and write blog posts following the focus keyword process discussed in the first step.
